最近有家新开张的超市，在这家超市入口处的启事上刊登着一条信息，这条信息使得爱德华太太成为了这家超市的常客。那究竟是什么信息有这么大的魔力呢？

All the housewives who went to the new supermarket had one great dream: to be the lucky customer (顾客) who did not have to pay for her shopping. For this was what the notice just inside the entrance promised. It said: “Remember, once a week, one of our customers gets free goods. This may be your lucky day!”

所有去新开的超市购物的家庭主妇都有一个伟大的梦想：成为一个购物不用付钱的幸运顾客。因为这正是入口处的告示所承诺的。上面写着:“请记住，每周有一位顾客可以获得免费商品。今天可能是你的幸运日!”

For several weeks Mrs. Edwards hoped, like many of her friends, to be the lucky customer. Unlike her friends, she never gave up hope. The cupboards (橱柜) in her kitchen were full of things, which she did not need. Her husband tried to advise her against buying things but didn’t succeed. She dreamed of the day when the manager of the supermarket would tell her, “Madam, this is your lucky day. Everything in your basket is free.”

几个星期以来，爱德华太太和她的许多朋友一样，都希望自己能成为那个幸运的顾客。与她的朋友不同，她从未放弃希望。她厨房的橱柜里装满了她不需要的东西。她丈夫劝她不要买不必要的东西，但没有成功。她梦想着有一天超市经理会对她说:“夫人，今天是你的幸运日。篮子里的东西都是免费的。”

On Friday morning, after she had finished her shopping and taken it to her car, she found that she had forgotten to buy any tea. She ran back to the supermarket, got the tea and went towards the cash desk (收银台). As she did so, she saw the manager of the supermarket come near to her. “Madam,” he said, holding out his hand, “I want to congratulate (祝贺) you! You are our lucky customer and everything you have in your basket is free!”

星期五早上，当她买完东西拿到车上后，她发现自己忘了买茶。她跑回超市，拿了茶，走向收银台。当她这样做的时候，她看到超市的经理向她走来。“夫人，”他伸出手说，“我要祝贺你!你是我们的幸运顾客，你篮子里的所有东西都是免费的!”
