Some students do really well in school and might skip a grade. They go to a higher grade to learn with older kids and do harder work. But there are problems with this. We asked young reporters if kids should skip grades. Here are their ideas.

Students can skip grades, but not all should. Smart students might learn more in a higher grade, but it’s hard for them to make friends. They might get picked on for being younger or too smart. If a kid really wants to skip a grade, they can. Skipping has good and bad points, but students should be able to decide for themselves. — Meyer Ballas, 12

School is important, but so is making friends. If a student skips a grade, they might have a hard time finding friends and feel left out. Schools can put students in classes that match their learning level. My old school did this for me in math and writing. I could hang out with kids of my age and still be challenged. This is good for everyone. More schools should do this. — Nate Rhew, 13
